Workshops

Sophie’s thoughts about contemporary poetry and how it’s constructed, and her reading of her own work, were real eye-openers, and will encourage us to broaden our scope, and will change the way we go about reading and understanding new poetry. We enjoyed the workshop immensely.

Past workshops

Poet as Mudlark

A mudlark finds moments of surprise in everyday silt, as does a poet. Whether that includes false teeth on the foreshore or a buckle under a rock, workshop goers rewrote ‘river’ and left the workshop equipped with writing methods to encourage new perspective.

Commissioned by Thames Festival Trust.

FUTURES Festival of Discovery

Myself and novelist Chris Vick were commissioned by Bath Spa University and Bristol University to run poetry and storytelling workshops for FUTURES Festival of Discovery 2019 and 2020. These workshops engaged Year 5 and 6 students at Roundhill Primary School with their future through the power of storytelling.

Grimm & Co.

Grimm & Co. in Rotherham champions the writer in every child through child-led story telling and poetry workshops. Whether it's Grandma's Scabs or a Giant's Belly Button Cleaner, the apothecary sells all the essentials needed for goblins, pixies, bogarts and occasionally humans.

As workshop facilitator and occasional witch, I’ve worked along BBC radio four’s Ian McMillan and run story-making sessions for learners aged 9-12.

Bringing the Outside In

Commissioned by Pyramid of Arts, I worked with a community group with special educational needs over 3 months to create kinetic wire and clay hanging mobiles inspired by their surroundings in Holbeck, Leeds. The installation was installed at The Tetley as part of the Bringing The Outiside In exhibition.

Three Ways Special School

I was commissioned as a sessional artist to work with a class with varying special, educational needs. The class’s theme was Native American. Fine motor skills were practised as I supported the learners to create wire animals and totem polls wound with wool.
